What Detroit voters need for the November 3, 2026 general election — official dates, tools, and offices only. Updated July 2026.

Voter-registration deadlineBy mail or online: Monday, October 19, 2026 (15 days before). After that, register IN PERSON at your city/township clerk with proof of residency October 20 through 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3, 2026.
Early votingMandatory statewide early voting: Saturday, October 24 – Sunday, November 1, 2026 (9 days; jurisdictions may optionally add the Monday before until 4 p.m.). Optional extended early voting may begin as early as Monday, October 5, 2026 in some communities.
Election DayTuesday, November 3, 2026 (polls per county hours)

Voting by mail

No excuse required — all registered Michigan voters have the right to vote by mail with an absentee ballot (available 40 days before the election). Online/mailed applications must reach your clerk by 5 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2026; in-person applications at the clerk's office until 4 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2026; Election Day registrants may vote absentee in person at the clerk's office.
