A young male giraffe at the Detroit Zoo was euthanized after sustaining serious injuries. The giraffe, named Nguvu, had joined the herd this spring. His injuries occurred during an interaction with the herd in their outdoor habitat on Saturday.

Animal care staff and the veterinary team provided immediate attention and closely monitored his condition. Despite their efforts, Nguvu's condition continued to deteriorate, leading to the decision to humanely euthanize him. The Detroit Zoo has expressed that Nguvu's loss has been difficult for the animal care and veterinary teams, who had grown attached to him during his short time at the zoo.

Further details about the incident are available from the Detroit Zoo.
