A tax collected at fueling stations has been the primary source of road funding for about a century. However, with the growing popularity of electric vehicles, this revenue source is declining. To address this issue, a pilot program is being launched to test an alternative funding method.

This program will involve 1,000 participants and is scheduled to start in February. It will examine various aspects of a mileage-based tax, including how to report mileage to the state.
