An employee of Farmington Public Schools has been charged with felony embezzlement. The charges stem from an audit that uncovered over $100,000 in alleged embezzlement, including grant funds meant to support homeless students. Hatty Ligon, 54, faces multiple charges, including failing to file a tax return and mishandling public money.

The charges date back to 2013 and Ligon was recently arraigned with a bond set at $500,000. She is scheduled to return to court on September 4.

Further details on the case are available, including a video report and a letter to families from the superintendent, Dr. Kelly Coffin.
